This is my second try to make a TUX. Needs lots of improvements.

Good beginning but you must try to bend (I'm not sure it's the right verb ! the left wing of your Tux

cerium50: you are right, i wanted to bend the arm of the tux so that it looks it is holding the spear. but i could not do so, can you give me some suggestion or tip to do it.

If you want, you can give me the *.psd, and I try to bend the arm for you, and after you will see how I did that, because I couldn't explain to you, my english is so  

i dont mind giving my psd to you but the thing is i want to learn myself rather than someone doing it for me. i am sure you will understand what i am trying to say.

if you can spend some time and explain me in basic steps how to do it, i am sure i will be able to do it. and dont worry your english is better than me.  

Good one Nagaya , put these points into consideration:

1. Bend the left arm around the spear.
2. Give a reflected gradient to the stick of spear with white color at center and black around.
3. Make the tux hold a shield.
4. Put feet above the armour.

i can think of doing all the steps except i dont know how to go for the pointer number 1

Well, i try to explain to you, so :

set invisible the left arm layer
create a new layer who "base of arm"
if you have photoshop ctrl + click on the layer who called "left wing"
if you have the gimp alpha vers sélection on the layer who called "left wing"
do a selection like that (whit with the elliptical marquee, in the mode "to withdraw from the current selection" :

fill the selection with black
create a new layer called "reflect of base of arm"
if you have photoshop ctrl + click on the layer who called "left wing"
if you have the gimp alpha vers sélection on the layer who called "left wing"
reduce the selection of 1px
select white to the foreground color
select the gradient tool and choose a white to transparent, linear gradient, from A to B

reduce the opacity of the layer at 75%
create a new layer called "wing boil"
take the pen tool, "plume" in french and make a selection like that :

fill the selection with black
reduce the selection of 1px
create new layer called "reflect of wing boil"
select white to the foreground color
select the gradient tool and choose a white to transparent, linear gradient, from A to B

reduce the opacity of the layer at 75%
organize your layer like that :

normally you have a result like that :

Don't judge my result, i did that so fastly
