| Britshi Profil: New Penguin | Hello there, I'd like some willing people to test out this "Moving wallpaper" I have. I know there is already a topic about it, but I was just asking people's opinions; here I want people to tell me whether it works ok on their desktop. I'll need a good variety of testers. People who use MAC, PC and lets not forget the adorable penguin... Linux. (I know his name is Tux). Anyway, if you chose to take part please state: what operating system you use; how much RAM you have and the pros and cons of the wallpaper. Now I only made one resolution of this, so it may not work well on different sized screens. Hopefully it'll work anyway. Thanks in advance! P.s: Any questions, feel free to post. | |
ghostnatyphon To die would be a great adventure. Profil: Penguin Pro | Windows Vista (32 bit) 2gb RAM How do I set it as my wallpaper? I've never done that with a html before I clicked the attached file link, and it just opens a blank webpage... And I tried right clicking and choosing to save linked content, but that just gave me a greeny gradient, not the mario wallpaper...
Asher Genius is not born , it is made.... Profil: Moderator | I can't see any thing there I saw the source and there was no sign of any jpg or gif image
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | By looking at the page source, I can see that it is an SWF flash animation. However, like the rest, I too cannot see anything. Here's the bug: Quote :
<param name="movie" value="Wallpaper.swf" />
|
Quote :
<param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><embed src="Wallpaper.swf" quality="autolow" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="1280" height="768" name="Wallpaper" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
|
It may work on YOUR computer, but for it to work on everyone else's computer, you'll have to first upload the SWF to the internet, and then provide the COMPLETE address of the url, including the http://www... whatever Good luck!

You'll have to explain that more because, Why does it work for me... But not for other people? Because I haven't uploaded the file to the internet. To use it as your desktop image you must make sure you can view html. files... And from my knowledge it will only work if your default browser to open such files is Firefox or IE, it doesn't seem to want to work with Safari for some reason.

ghostnatyphon To die would be a great adventure. Profil: Penguin Pro | I'm not using Safari though, I'm using Opera Though I've viewed basically the same (Though my own swfs) in Safari many times, and it has worked. And the reason it works on your computer is because on your computer presumably is the Wallpaper file, which is being pointed at in the src tag (or the value tag). But it isn't on our computers so our web browsers are looking on our computer for: "Wallpaper.swf" which isn't there. You should upload it to a site like antiup, or swfup, or swfcabin, or a similiar one, and then get the direct link (http://www.swfup.com/11321 example.) and put it into the embed tag, below: <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><embed src="DIRECTLINKHERE" quality="autolow" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="1280" height="768" name="Wallpaper" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /> and then save the page as a html, and that should work. And if I have to view this, in say, Internet Explorer then how can I use it as a desktop background?
legace Profil: Moderator | Upload the swf file, too, and then it should work You see, you might have the SWF file in the folder you have the HTML file in. We don't - because you haven't uploaded it Thats why it doesn't work..

To use this as a wallpaper, it shouldn't have anything with browsers, that's right. I know that on XP you can set your background to be a wallpaper from an internet page. On Vista and Mac OS X there are whole other ways to set an image as a moving wallpaper. I'm not sure how this is supposed to work. Perhaps Britshi can explain this.
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | To set a Web Page as your desktop, go to Display Properties, and then select the Desktop tab. Click on the Customize Desktop button. Select the Web tab. Click on New. Enter the address of the Web Page, which may be on your computer - or on the internet.
Gruzz Profil: Moderator | Oh right, I didn't thought of it that the web page could also be on your computer. But this method is for XP (perhaps Vista as well?) but not for Mac OS X.
truth ------------------------- Profil: Big Penguin | but where's the flash file?
Britshi Profil: New Penguin | AHHH! I think I forgot one MAJOR instruction, you have to SAVE the file to your computer... You MUSTN'T just use a weblink.

But dude, we don't have the flash file. We need the flash file. Upload the SWF file, so we have the animation or whatever it is. We can't get your animation from anywhere We have the HTML file, but we need a SWF file too. You have uploaded only the HTML file...

Nope, there is no option to choose a "web" location for your background in vista, and navigating to a http with a flash file doesn't seem to work - it only allows images such as gif, jpeg and png, it wont let you have swfs or point at htmls (local or another network) to get an swf

AHHHHH!!! Alright alright. Here's the .swf file. FLASH FTW! Ok, hopefully this is all that is needed, again... Anymore problems: keep posting.
ghostnatyphon To die would be a great adventure. Profil: Penguin Pro | Problem 1: I don't know how to make an swf as my background, in vista, or ubuntu, either would be nice. I can't choose a swf file And if anyone can't work it out, press the swf file link, which will open up a new page, then press the download link (In a green box)
haran Profil: Penguin | You can only use .html as a desktop background.
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | It works, but I have to tell you, a lot of people will have problems. Trust me, until they integrate moving pictures in the OS shell, the idea of an animated wallpaper is useless.
ghostnatyphon To die would be a great adventure. Profil: Penguin Pro | Well, I can't see any way to use a .html page either, in Vista or Ubuntu. And if a lot of people will have problems, this seems pointless for the time-being - a cool feature but if most people wont be able to use it or will have a nightmare getting it to work, they wont bother. Though I wouldn't mind the idea personally, I'd quite like to be able to make my own interactive swfs to stick on my dekstop, even if it is a hassle to get it to work.
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | That's easy. Just open up notepad. Type in this code: Quote :
<html> <head> <title>Whatever you want</title> </head> <body> <object classid="clsid 27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" align="middle"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="PUT YOUR SWF FILE ADDRESS HERE" /><param name="quality" value="autolow" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><embed src="PUT YOUR SWF FILE ADDRESS HERE" quality="autolow" bgcolor="#ffffff" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /> </object> </body> </html>
|
Save it with a .htm extension. Then just do what I said in my earlier post.
ghostnatyphon To die would be a great adventure. Profil: Penguin Pro | But there is no web tab on Vista for the background And it wont let me find or select htm files... And I've no idea how I'd do this in Ubuntu, no web tab either

Pretty much all customisation of a computer is useless, and there were only a LOT of problems because I forgot that step. Quote :

I can make them interactive, I think. I haven't had a go at it, but I'm sure I can if the file runs as a .swf on your desktop. Quote :

Well, this is why I wanted Lots of operating systems to test it out. So I take it that this will not work for Vista or Ubuntu?
ghostnatyphon To die would be a great adventure. Profil: Penguin Pro | If the file runs as an swf it would be easy to make it interactive, so long as you know the AS to do what you want Though AS isn't very complicated, so it certainly wouldn't be too hard. And no it doesn't appear to work in Vista or Ubuntu, though I will keep trying, if I can get it to work then I can start making my own interactive wallpapers, they vould prove very useful for me.
legace Profil: Moderator | Works good for me (on XP). Explorer.exe uses about 10MB more memory (not a big real, though).
ghostnatyphon To die would be a great adventure. Profil: Penguin Pro | Maybe not on xp 10mb isn't but on vista you need all the RAM you can get My computer just running Vista at startup, standard programs (Minus the rubbish HP stuff, just things like explorer, desktopmanager, and a few update things (Taking about 100kb of memory each) uses 38% of my RAM, so about 4/5 of a gb. Drives me mad. *Another reason I love Ubuntu! With FireFox, Pidgin, The Gimp, and Open Office Word Processor open, while doing the flip 3D with a cube, and reflections, it only uses 27% of my RAM and only 25% of one core, and 11% of the other! Still found no way on vista Haven't been on Ubuntu today yet, my brothers using the xbox so I need vista for ICS (Is there something I could use to do this on ubuntu? Then I'd barely ever be in vista xD)
