Icon Box

Some of the older members already know it, and for those of you who don't, I'll explain. This topic will be filled with your creations of icons. You might think what kind of icons, .png (for example dock icons) / .ico (Windows icons) / Mac icons. Well, I'd say dock icons! The size your icons should be is 256 x 256 pixels. This is not a topic to release full icon sets, please create a new topic for this in the Graphic Release | Icons & Wallpapers section. The idea of this topic is that we're all able to improve and have fun. Negative comments are not forbidden, but everything should be kept in a positive aura. Keep in mind your icons weren't as nice as they're now some time ago.

The former Icon Box was placed in the International Section but is now moved to the French section. You can have a look at it here!  :great: Note: only English in this topic, any other language will be removed.

Good luck to all and show us what you're all able to do!  :loveit:

Edit: After several demand and reaching 100 pages, icons with a size of 512 by 512 are now allowed!

Topic pinned.

I am sorry Gruzz, I should have read the directions of making icons as  256*256. I will take care from now on.

Here is one more I was trying to make, but could not get a good crystal effect.

Any ideas how to go for this one?

Maybe you should make a B&B style backgrouond? or add a "swirly cloud" effect? Like this, but without a radial blur.

Opps, you are right. I did not realize it. May be the canvass size was a bit small, may be the image was a bit big.   .

Will correct it right away.

This is a very good phone icon Gruzz. I did not realize that colors can make such a difference. 300% better than the one I made.  :great:

This icon box will not be complete without some entries from you Ashar. :oui:

I have a lot to learn from people like you.

I was also thinking if someone knows some basic steps of making the icons. I mean the prerequisites / the basic rules or tips and post them here, it would definitely help people like me.

Nagaya , thanks for your appreciation :jap:

I was thinking of creating a topic where people interested in creating icons can learn and share there ideas with others :oui:.

I don't think this is the perfect place for learning techniques of creating icons because everyone here comes with a new creation and is anxious to post his creation rather than telling how he created it.
I wish this topic proves me wrong about my vision.

I'd say we could use this topic also to explain how we made our creations.

For my simple phone I used dark blue to light blue gradient. A small smooth emboss and a little drop shadow. For the "crystal" effect on top I created a new layer, grabbed the Ellipse Tool and drew a white circle. Now I Ctrl+clicked the thumbnail of the phone layer, pressed Ctrl+I which will inverse my selection and pressed delete. Now I dropped the opacity of this white layer to 29%. For the small round inside I used Inner Shadow and Texturizer from the Filter Gallery. Not sure if anyone was interested but it might help you to get to understand how I did the crystal effect! Any more questions can be posted here.

Thanks Gruzz and Ashar,
It will be good to consolidate icons posts and simple ways to make them in one thread.

I just now learned a good text effect from my friend. I am sure people here will like it. I will make a tutorial and post it as soon as get back home. Cheers! :oui:

An Panda Anti virus icon:

:loveit: If anyone wants to know how it's done, I'd happily provide the .psd and an explanation but it'll be pretty big and hard for me.

Edit: His ears look cut off somehow, but in the .psd file they are perfectly round. :ouch:
