AoI? And it's very good, though it's odd to see a window, especially one with bars... :p

But is it like Photoshop or is it a 3D program? What does it do? :p

And that kennel, did you make it in 3D, 2D, or did you just type "kennel" and the program made it for you? ;)

Very good work. :great: Art of Illusion is a 3D program, unlike Photoshop. I'd say that these 3D programs are much harder to learn then Photoshop. :) To make a kennel, you'll have to model it yourself. You'll get some basic objects such as spheres, squares etc. but you've to make your own shapes out of them. You can also draw a curve and then use for example 'revolve' to turn it into a 3D object. Again, fantastic scene Truth. I've almost finished my robot in Maya. ;)

Ah. Well I had some very basic experience in 3D back in my gaming days, so I actually understand what all you said. :o

That looks great then! :great:

3D software are a tool for virtual reality.
they make use of surfaces , curved and moved to create animations.

the good thing about it is, you can place the camera anywhere and get a nice still shot. :cool2:
which is certainly not the case with raster graphic editors like PS.

http://www.crystalxp.net/forum/mesimages/145180/closeup.jpg

as gruzz said, they are hard to master. for example, I had to model and place every part of the chain.

I'm thinking of posting a tutorial about 3D and AoI, when I have enough time.

I did download AoI and I will admit that it will take a while to get used to. I was starting to learn 3DS Max but I had to format my computer... I'll have to work with this because I like the results that I see

Yes of course, 3D design learning is not just easy as working with Photoshop ;)
But one you get hold to it Then you live within it
It's sometimes feels as easier that Ps too :mdr:

Great Outcomes by truth  via AoI
I'm not such a fan in AoI but master much of my 3D creations through 3DMax

I also tried blender but couldn't get hang of it. also there aren't much tutorials, manuals for blender.(at least for beginners)

There is a remarkable tutorial called "the hourglass tutorial" it's included in AoI , that was all it took me to get started.

From the tutorials that I've seen, it looks like much of the work isn't primitive based and more curved based... is that true?

a primitive is an object known to software. you call "cube", and it makes a cube, however it won't make a fish if you call "nemo" :)

so, obviously you will have to modify the cube into a fish. subdividing it,
pulling points, edges, faces here n there, smoothing it etc.

but it is a fact that every model starts from a primitive.

you may like to have a look here ;)

I had trouble finding good beginner tutorials on blender too :/

I did try that hourglass tutorial for AoI and I was so happy when I managed to do it!  :he: Time to follow some more now.

Also, how did you make the rings on the chain? And also the grass and background? :p

I'm happy it worked.

the first ring, modeled from a cube, rest copy/pasted, rotated and placed appropriately.
there is also a plug in script that generates straight chains.

the grass is image-mapping(a texture technique) of a grass image over a huge mesh(plane) as ground.
image mapping

the background: grass strands generated by another plug in. white-blue texture to sky.
