Well, I have decided to give digital painting a go. Actual digital painting. That means using nothing but the brush tool and eyedropper / color selector. No Burn/Dodge/Smudge tools. No gradients or blurs. None of the tricks I use for making the usual tux.
 
Here is an update of Ariel. Only the skin on the face is done ... I just started a couple of hours ago.

Very nice, especially for a WIP. I'm assuming that the final version will include scales and shading throughout and such, so I won't comment on that now.

Yes, I will include scales and also a texture on all areas of skin ... but they shall be very subtle. You'd have to look closely to notice, though they should help improve the overall look of the painting.

Here is an update. The eyes and lips are done. You can't see it right now, but at full resolution ... the eyes are freakishly realistic, and the lips are so hot!

This is just a preview, the full res is 600 dpi ... about four times as much width and height.

Third WIP. A lot more progress. Fixed the shells' position and the waist. And no, Asher, it wasn't because it was too thin ... it was because the ass would not be big enough.

At this point, I'm waiting until you do either the hair or tail.

Both will take a long time, and both will need drastic alterations. For example, I have noticed that her head looks too big ... mostly because her tail is out of proportion. Disney may have made it small, but mermaids' tails should be long and elegant. So ... I'm going to have to change that. The rear area will be bigger and more prominent.

For the hair, I dunno. It depends on where I put her. If she's underwater, as I right now believe, her hair should be wavy ... sort of it now, but more hair-like, and like its flowing. But if I decide the rest of the picture looks like it's not in water, her hair will have the be different.

But anyway, you can still tell me if the bikini's position is OK now.

she looks better her left cheek seems oblique though  , it just needs some smoothness , I can't say much about colors since I've never done such coloring in PS , just try your best to improve your coloring skills I am sure you will find many tutorials for this.

When you say "her" left, do you mean our right?

Ah, he is right about that cheek. As for the shell bra, it seems to be fine at this point. Much of this will all come together in the future versions.

Well, here is today's work. I've changed the collar area, and I've smoothened the colours on the boobs. And best of all, I've done the stomach area. That took me quite a while to do, I went through a few anatomy diagrams to understand the area.

I haven't given her a six pack, what are you talking about? Her "abs" are flat. You can't see the muscles.

I see something going on in there. Or maybe she just looks a little too bony... I think she needs to be fattened up a tiny touch around the stomach area...

I don't really get what area you're talking about. Could you circle the specific areas?
 
Oh, and keep in mind that she's a mermaid in the ocean. She's supposed to be a little bony. Of course, if you think it's too much ...
