| uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | I know you're all probably tired of my drawings, but hey ... I gotta learn! Anyway, this is my first traditional artwork in YEARS. The last time I made it, it was oil or glass painting in 9th or 10th grade. This is, also, my first attempt to create fur manually ... or even shade using pencils. Luckily, I had a very good book on drawing which had many helpful tips. So without any further delay ... here you go:

uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Yeah, after drawing it, I noticed that they were both tilted towards the same direction ... which is freaky and impossible. And I think I put my hand on one of them, causing it to smudge a bit. Oh well, better luck next time, I guess ... ---------------

Tanshin Profil: Penguin Pro | Not bad for an early drawing.
I can tell you that a must have for smooth shading are tortillions. They make life so much easier. ---------------

.drago. Leaved this forum for a bit!! Profil: Top Penguin | i see the smooth shading are very very well because the cat have a hair and hair don't make the body shading soft ---------------

Tanshin Profil: Penguin Pro | If you are talking about my comment about smooth shading, I understand the roughness for the fur.
But I'm just saying for the future, that if he is making smooth shading, a bunch of tortillions is a must. ---------------

Tanshin Profil: Penguin Pro | You could probably make some yourself if you really wanted to. If you tightly roll up some paper... EDIT: I found a thing about it: http://share3.esd105.wednet.edu/so [...] illion.htm Message edited by Tanshin on 02-24-2009 at 09:42:20 PM ---------------

uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Well, I made four of those tortillions today. It's amazing how simple paper can blend just as well as your finger ... and without the oil! Thanks, Tanny! (Can I call you Tanny? ) EDIT: I made a cat's head today. Used charcoal for the first time. uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Coming from you, that means a lot. Thanks!
It was mainly because of the variation in pencils. First, I made the outline. Filled it with the lightest shade of pencil that I had (4H). I then made fur with a 2H or HB (can't remember). Believe me, at this point, it looked nothing like the result. Then, I finally came to the actual shading. With 2B, I gave general shadows to all areas that weren't in the light. Next came the darker shadows with 4B, like under the chin, the stripes between the eyes, etc. Finally, I used a "Neutral" charcoal pencil for the darkest areas -- like outline for the eyes, the nostrils, and the inner ears. Signed. Set with fixative. Scanned. ---------------
