Maybe I'll get a pic for you once I get my game back from my friend, but it basically looked like a volcano that had spiky tops (like the drawing you made). I would try to draw it from memory but it would stink.

I see some kind of resemblance.
 
Oni Island is indeed evil. It is where you fight one of the final bosses/second to last dungeon. Every night it changes it's location and is the location of the Dark Lord Ninetails (a fox with nine tails). It is where you learn of the Ruler of Darkness Yami. As you can probably tell, the game is very heavily based off of Japanese folklore.
