| haran Profil: Penguin | I hope I'm not disobeying any rules because I'm new but is there any way I can download just the vista start button for my windows 2000 computer. | |
Gruzz Profil: Moderator | With just a .png you can't change your Start Button yet. You'll have to edit a basic theme and put in the Vista globe, but that's not easy at all. I'm not even sure that it can be achieved with Windows 2000. I found this website for Windows XP Start Menu changer though.
poiru Profil: Moderator | But isnt that link for WinXP
Gruzz Profil: Moderator | Yes it is. As far as I can see.

haran Profil: Penguin | Even though the tutorial was for xp kanishck, it's a great tutorial and i already have all the tools i need(photoshop and resource hacker). It even tells you how to have transparent or partially transparent icon. The only problem is when i apply all the changes to explorer.exe, the open explorer.exe again, it goes back to the original explorer.exe And it says its part two of my "Hacking the Windows XP Start Button" series. Where's part 1?
Asher Genius is not born , it is made.... Profil: Moderator | Strange , a link to Part 1 is there but it's not working , anyway I would suggest you to place the modified explorer.exe file in Windows directory but do keep a backup of the original explorer.exe file , I think this can be done in Safe-Mode

Here it is, it's not about changing the image, but about changed the Start menu text.
| |
haran Profil: Penguin | I think it might be possible to change just the start button in windows 2000 because a while ago, i downloaded desktopX (its another thing in stardock) and this was the screenshot i took of it.
| |
haran Profil: Penguin | Is there another way of applying the changes to explorer.exe without going to task manager because the original explorer.exe jsut keeps coming back, not my modified one.
Asher Genius is not born , it is made.... Profil: Moderator | If I were in your place then I would do that in DOS by using a bootable CD , if you can't do this then the best thing I can suggest you would be Safe-Mode Topic moved

haran Profil: Penguin | I actually found something that is just the start button even tough it's supposed to be for xp. It's called Blaero Start Orb. The only problem is that it goes under my taskbar and not above but it probably works for windows xp.

by default the Blaero start button is under the taskbar. You have to right-click it, select 'Options', then change the 'Z order' to "always on top".
