NOTE! I AM NOT SURE IF THIS WORKS IN VISTA.
What you need to do is this:
1) Get the new logon you want and change it's name to logonuinew.exe
2) Move logonuinew.exe to C:\WINDOWS\system32
3) Now, open the startmenu, type in regedit in the search box and press Enter.
4) Browse to (from the left panel)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Microsoft --> Windows NT --> CurrentVersion --> Winlogon
5) On the right panel, double-click the UIHost value and change it to logonuinew.exe
Now you should have a new logon | |

Ok, this is what i did. I had one logonui file, it was the vista logon screen. I deleted to Recyle Bin-->then out of my computer. Now the file should'nt be on my computer anymore. Then i downloaded logonui.zip, and inside the logonui.zip was the original xp logonui file. i renamed it as logonuinew.exe. I moved it to D:\Windows\system32. Then i opened registry editor. i looked on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Microsoft --> Windows NT --> CurrentVersion --> Winlogon. Then i clicked UIHost. I changed the UIHost value data to: logonuinew.exe Then i tried switch user. Then a welcome screen doesn't come up, its just a little window thing says i need to write my password there, and when I do, it just goes back to my site. so, i deleted the logonuinew.exe from my computer, and downloaded the logonui.zip again. i moved the logonui file (which was in logonui.zip) to D:\WINDOWS\system32. Then i opened Logon loader, and clicked "select logon screen" and looked in D:\WINDOWS\system32 and i picked logonui.exe. Thanks Legace for you'r help, but this doesn't work. is there any way to change the logonui.exe (the original windows xp logon screen) to the Default welcome screen??? | |

Did you check the UIhost after you use the Logon Loader?? Make sure it's set to your new logonui name Additional >> ( Don't try this if you're not sure that you can do this ) Download Replacer and use it to replace the logonui.exe in C>Windows>System32 Restart your computer | |

Are you sure you changed it to : C:\Windows\system32\logonui.exe
and NOT: Logonui.exe
you have to give FULL PATH of the logon file.
typing in just logonui.exe won't do it. Windows will not find the file and switch to classic logon dialog.
you can set the path to ANY logon file on your drive.
like: C:\My special folder\specialLogonui.exe
Why softwares can't restore your default logon:
By default they backup your C:\Windows\system32\logonui.exe
when they install, or started for first time.
your default logon was already modified, which is backed-up , and restored to no avail.
Conditions for default logon:
1. The file: C:\Windows\system32\logonui.exe exists and is a valid logon file.
2. registery value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Microsoft --> Windows NT --> CurrentVersion --> Winlogon -->UIHost
has value: C:\Windows\system32\logonui.exe
---------------
Good bye friends.

WhiteRabit Profil: New Penguin | Your operating system got corrupted somehow.Most of the boot up of problem because of registry missing or crashed, file deleted or changed.Here is the solution to boot up your Windows:
Boot up with WinPE
Tenorshare Data Recovery WinPE allows users to burn ISO file to CD/DVD/USB flash drive and boot up operating system from bootable CD/DVD/USB flash drive directly.It can be used to retrieve data under any boot up problem.
Step 1: Download Tenorshare Data Recovery WinPE in any available computer (not from PC that can’t boot up). Then launch it. Get it from http://www.any-data-recovery.com/index.htm
Step 2: Insert CD/DVD/USB flash drive to the computer, choose ISO image file. Here we take USB flash drive for example. Then burn ISO file into flash drive.
Step 3: Insert the burned flash drive to the unbootable PC. Run computer and press “F2”, ”F10” or “Delete” to enter BIOS setup.
Step 4: Use the arrow keys to select Boot tab, select Boot Device Priority and press Enter. Please choose 1st Boot Device to USB, and then press F10 to save setting. Now your computer will start with the changed settings automatically. Then if you have a backup for your Windows then perform a system restore to fix it.If not,reinstall it.
