Hello Guys!!! First of all I want to say thank you to the community for all its efforts and amazing work.

I'm not a designer, though I can use Photoshop, or Blender, and so... I'm good "designing" but God didnt gave me the ability to put that on paper (or screen for the case) anyway...

I'm a developer, and I'm currently programming 2 apps, as a personal project and as a college duty i choose. The first one is a Raytracer, its called "Light Arrow" (self explanatory title), the second one is a OpenGL parser, loader, and viewer for a variety of 3D formats (starting with OBJ, PLY, and 3DS maybe) and its name is Eos http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eos (Godess of Dawn or so). They both are going to be release under GNU GPL License with source code included.  

So... the page is going to be wiki like, small project page with doc, download, screens, and soo on. Nothing fancy. But I need a logo for the page, and icon for the Apps.

Light Arrow: Well hmmm a Light arrow.

Eos: Maybe a Sunset, or a Sun or something depicting Dawn. or a Mesh in a 3D wndow or anything depicting 3D model. I trust you have better ideas than me  

I like Crystal style but you guys make so much nice works that I'm sure any style would be ok.

You haven't described what you would like the logo to be like

I'll have a go at making some icons (And the logo when I know what you want )

I'll either upload in a few minutes or I'll upload tomorrow morning (I need to go soon)

EDIT: Here's an idea for the Eos icon, going with the Sun/sunset idea...

Tell me waht you think, if you like it or not (Be brutally honest ) and if there's anything you want changing (Or a totally different one)

I'll do the other(s) tomorrow, as now I need to vanish and enter the dark world of Snow Tuxes... (Don't ask, I'm not too sure myself)

Ohh sorry    Well the logo for the page would have the same theme as the icon, maybe a little more elaborated fr the Raytracer (Light arrow) maybe a fats moving golden light emiting arrow, like its coming towards the camera (sorry im used to 3d ).  It would be great a textless version of the logo or one with the name on it separated so it can be used in different places.

As the logo for the 3D viewer (Eos) well samething like a Dawn or Sunset or Sun (depicting Eos the godess of the dawn, or maybe a pretty semi naked woman with a sunset or aurora boreal behind her (anime chibi style) like the picture of eos on the wiki , or not LOL), or a wireframe cube coming out from a window in a perspective view. Pretty much like the icon, any ideas you have I think they would be great

As for Light arrow I know much how i like it as i described, but for Eos, I would like some ideas anyway Thanx a lot .Ghost.

I like the concept I really do! I already posted some more info for you to have a lead on. I would like also a textless version of it (you know, people identifing the app with the logo, as when u see blue/greenish feathers u think of PhotoShop and so). Another thing, is that I prefer that the logo does not have a square delimitation, so that banners or things like that could be made without knowing where the logo ends, png alpha makes the trick if the logo dont make it to the edges of the image. And a glossy version of that would be awesome

Try not to double post by the way, just use the edit button (Otherwise the mods might attack you Very scary... ), I'd have still found anyway, I spend a lot of time revisiting topics to check for edited replies

The background is alpha, so I assume you'd like the rays to fade out as opposed to hitting the end of the icon? I'll do that and remove the lettering.

Looking better? Or any changes? I wasn't sure if you wanted the bottom of the icon to fade as well, but if so I'll change that too But I have to go now, bye!

 thnx for the tip, ill edit from now on. As for the icon yeah, fade out or just smaller to fit inside would be ok, pretty much like an alpha xp icon (512x512 Icon makes an excellent logo imo LOL) and some crystal gloss look would be nice in the logo (as well as for the icon but maybe space does matter in that case).

OK now I'm editing LOL. This one is much better, maybe reducing the circle size or moving it a little down so its more like dawn, and putting some more rays in it. I saw an icon that has like a liitle "mountain"??? on it making the impression the sun is going behind it, what do you think? and some glow effects would be nice. The web page background is dark for the moment, i dont have the exact color right now, but like a #3B3B3B and a #454545 so its gray, and glows look nice on that  

Thanx a lot!!! Dont think im rushing it LOL I just started eearly to think on the design, you can work on it when you have time (or maybe a sunset is more exciting than snow tux??   dunno.

Sunset is slightly more exciting on the simple basis there's only one to do For the snow tux I am effectively having to do 132 tiles with snow/ice/water and tuxes on them (All slightly different) and they're all 256x256 pixels, and though it's simply a matter of copying and pasting the layers and moving them about, it does take a bloody long time, and now I've got to restart them, and have them done by 28th August. Plus I've got to do a lot of revision because I go back to school (Sixth Form/College) and I have a test the same month I go back.

But I'm doing this at the minute Like to get things done when I start, if I leave them later I'll end up never doing them

I've added some rays, but now I know what the background colour will be like it will make it easier to get some glow effects.

EDIT: Ok then, here's version 5! Rays, and glow, and lower, and glossy

It looks good on an #3b3b3b background, but on a #454545 the orange glow is too bright, but if I lower the opacity, then you can barely see the glow on the #3b3b3b...

There is some aliasing on the 3rd ray ... otherwise it looks great, good job Ghost

 holy pixels, its getting better and better I like it a lot. The icon i told you was a google image search on sunset icon LOL images 1 and 2 (then you'll know why I requested the icon with you guys). I really love the new look the glow looks amazing, aim going to test it right now with the background colors i mentioned. One more this could you do more round the ray dispersion, you know like concentric circles, it doesn't matter if you do the sun smaller or the image wider, or the sun taller, etc..., its looking awesome already!

You don't mind if I use the icon on my site? It's my online portfolio (Not finished yet) and I want to show examples of my icons, thought I'd ask first though

 I dont mind, i even encourage you to! You should show your work, of course you also be credited in the app webpage as the icon and logo designer so i will be asking your info later .

As for dispersion and concentric... I mean, the sun is a semi circle right?? so i would like the rays to fade out when aproaching the limits of a bigger semi circle, so that the rays disappear "always" at the same distance from the sun (concentric) in a circular manner. And one more thing, I think it would look better if you remove the fade from the bottom, so that the only thing fading and glowing are the rays, the bottom could still be a line to the end of the image (that i dont care, i just dont wanted to look like enclosed on a square).
Ill try to make an image so you know more less how.

(Believe it actually took me a while to make a concentric round light dispersion on the rays look)

EDIT: OH I forgot to mention BY NO MEANS base your logo on my image LOL your work is much better, it was just a concentric dispersion or whatever demonstration with no fade on the bottom.
