Hi all, I'm new to graphic designing, but have always wanted to do it. I see there's loads of tuts for PS, but are they any for GIMP? I know they are very similiar, but does anyone know where to get starter GIMP tuts? Or maybe a GIMP tut for me to start me off?

Thanks

To find some gimp tutorials on the forums here, go to the Graphics Tutorials section, scroll down and there is a search box. Type "Gimp" without the quotes in there and search, you'll find a fair few

Other places I know of..

Official Gimp Site: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/
Ordered into levels, so you can look at beginner

http://www.gimp-tutorials.com/
A load of random tutorials all bunched together  May be useful if you are ever looking for a certain thing.

http://gimp-tutorials.net/
A load of tutorials, a community and links to other Gimp sites that might be useful.

Thanks Blagg, but them 2 sites where confusing. Gimp tuts was like. Lame, it said "Now we need to control the brush type by using the gimp renderer" or something, and I was like "wtf is a Gimp Renderer or w/e it was.

And ghost, I'm checking them now.

ok, that was quick... you have gone from installing gimp to epic fail (Giving up).. to installing cs3 which failed on install back to a gimp modified... I have been using the gimp for about 4 years now and have found those (3)sites very usefull at the beginning for me. Lame is a bit harsh for free info that CAN help you... I think you need to slow down and study up more bud..

Dude, and I now know you're either lying or are the God at gimp. Because there at tuts on one of them websites that was written as if I was a pro at gimp =

"will fix that by changing the blend mode to Multiply, and then duplicating the layer and setting the mode to Soft light giving it better detail."

Well how do we set the mode to soft?

Once you understand the Fundamentals of Layers and "Modes" of a single layer or brush strokes (normal, dissolve, behind, lighter, darker etc..) Then maybe they will make more sense to you.

A god I am not. Just trying to help you in you search for answers

Sorry almost forgot.. This screen shot shows 2 layers, top layer selected. Click triangle at the Modes selection. Choose your mode for that layer.
