| uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Hey, I'm creating a Tux for Disney's new character: Wall-E. I'm not sure where I should've posted this, as it's still a work-in-progress - but I thought I'd post it here as I need a lot of help. Here's a preview: First, for individual body parts like pieces of the neck, I need to give it a 3D effect. Would it be better to do it manually using shadows and lines and all, or would it be better to simply use the Bevel and Emboss option? Second, the grey rim inside the pupil. Something about it seems wrong. Could someone help me out? Lastly, can anyone here tell me how I can get the rusty effect for the main body? And those craters at the bottom of the "chest"? Thanks! | |
truth ------------------------- Profil: Big Penguin | well started is half done. Nice idea and design too. Some hints: For 3D effect you need to darken areas with shadows but as background is transparent, the shadows must Not be visible on background. except for the whole shadow of the Tux - E near its feet. so you can use bevel but avoid drop shadows. also dis-align the eyes vertically, like in the original. you may also give the more orange/rusty/copper look to metal parts than a shiny golden one as on the neck. use perspective for more 3D look.( you may notice this in original picture, the "box with Wall -E label" is narrower on top and wider on bottom. it gives a "standing tall" like effect.) the tracks (feet) are horizontally cylindrical so the shine must be in middle and darker towards top and bottom. a horizontal reflective gradient, for example. (again, notice the tracks in original)

Done. Thanks, I think it looks a little better (and funnier) now! Quote :

But won't this make it look less like a Tux and more like a normal Mascot? Quote :

Hehe, I feel stupid now. Fixed! Quote :

But HOW do I do that? My guess is to manipulate the shadow (with noise) feature and the blending mode to get that... anything else?
x3lumin8x Profil: Penguin | For the rusty look, you can make your own texture or find a rust texture on the net. Once you have the texture, use the 'Place' option in PS and place the texture where ever you want.
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | I know how to get that rusty look now, but I'm saving it for the end. I'm not sure if I want to put it, it'll make it too realistic for a crystalisation. Tomorrow, I do arms! :-) OK, here's my progress so far:

uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | I'm done with the arms. Working on the 3D look right now. I need advice regarding the console (the gray thing below the nack and above the main body). It's supposed to be absolutely flat. No curves, no contour or anything. So where do I give it the shadow and reflection/glow?? Should I even give it all? Really need help! PS - See the change in the resolution?? I just bought a new 22" Wide LCD from Samsung. Yipee!!!

truth ------------------------- Profil: Big Penguin | the console part looks all right as it is. you may have a slight radial gradient overlay in blending options , over the whole console part. (if it is a single layer I guess.) and the arms , the pure black n white strips look too plastic and clean. I'd suggest rusty orange with black/grey stripes. and a less gloss. may be a shine instead.(gradient overlay as above). select that region and brush them in orange in "color" mode.then use >filters add noise to rough it a bit. the hands: the portions at an angle to front view ( I'm talking of depth.) may have a darker shade of color. good luck !
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Thanks for your help, truth!! I've finally finished working on Tux-E! Here's it is:

Gruzz Profil: Moderator | Nice result. Some things, such as the hands, shadow and the screen with yellow icons on wall-e could have been better in my opinion though.
