I do not use Gimp as much as I do Photoshop , I achieved this in PS:

The PSD can be downloaded by clicking here , you can import the PSD file in Gimp and then you can see its contents

I am not pretty sure how to made this in GIMP (I learned Photoshop rather) but I could try...
But that effect would not be hard to achieve using gradients, drop shadow, a gloss layer and a simple object (with inner shadow) in middle.
