Hi

Please would someone kindly give me some advise; I have a JPeg image which I would like to make into a icon for use with XP. What software do I need and from where? Also what is recommended for creating a logo for use on a website; all the ones I have created in a paint package look decidedly jagged etc.

Hi!

To convert a picture into a .ico file, you don't need any software, just go http://converticon.com/
The only thing you need to do is to convert before your jpg into a png file, you can do it with paint, just oad your jpg and save it as a png file.

To create a logo, you can buy photoshop ( 1075 € ) or download GIMP (GNU Image Modification Program) which is absolutely free!

I want to add: To create icons yourself you can use Axialis Icon Workshop which is a great program! It might look hard at start, but there are very good tutorials on the site.   You can find Photoshop here, you can also download a trail there. You can find The GIMP here.

From ConvertIcon ,you can convert only png images into ico and vice versa ,it does'nt convert jpeg files.You can easily save jpeg file as png by using IrfanView.

You can create good images in Paint.net which is also free.
