| akulion Profil: New Penguin | Hi, Ok my title says it all really. I have a problem when converting PNG to GIF in photoshop. The PNG graphics are seamlessly beautiful - but have a transparency issue in IE So I like to use GIF, but then problem arises that the resultant gif image has horrible rough edges and loses all its beauty like below: PNG IMAGE
 --------------- GIF IMAGE
Any help appretiated Thanks Aku | |
Neil Chances are not had but gained....... Profil: Penguin Pro | Well, you cannot get the advanced transparency effect of a .PNG image by converting it to a .GIF If you need round enges with advanced transparency, .PNG is the format for you to use The new Photoshop CS2 and ImageReady CS2 has the ability to make Transparency .GIFs but not fully transparent as .PNGs | |
akulion Profil: New Penguin | aaawww thanks for the answer i will just have to settle for png - to hell with IE | |

Gruzz Profil: Moderator | I believe this problem is fixed in the new Internet Explorer 7. But I am not 100% sure, because I use firefox. | |

Asher Genius is not born , it is made.... Profil: Moderator | There is a trick by which you can preserve transparency even in .gif (animated or non-anomated) files. First of all ,open the .png image-file in Photoshop (or any other image editor). Now go to "Image ->Canvas Size" and type 128px both for Height and Width. This will leave some extra space around the document because the size of your image is 117px by 118px.If you are using another image which has the dimension of 128px by 128px ,then you have to decrease its size by a little amount so as to leave a vacant sapce.Once you have your document with enough vacant space and your image at its center ,create a new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N) and fill it with the backgrong color on which you are going to show your image. For example: if you want to show your image as avatar on Crystal XP then you have to find out the background color of avatar area.To do so ,open any topic in Crystal Xp's forum section and press Print Screen key.Now paste this screenshot in Photoshop.Select the Eye Dropper Tool (I) and click on the avatar area.It will be EEEFF4.Fill the newly created layer with this color and save your image as .gif.Do not use the "Save As For Web" for saving your image. It will diminish the gradien effect. Here's your image in .gif extension:
