Here's the tut you were looking for:
Note: This tut may not give you the results which you are expecting but it will surely give you the clue about how such 3D text can be achieved.
1. First of all get a smooth and bold font. You can use google to get variety of fonts.I will use Mac Type as a sample font.Download and extract the .ttf file in SystemDrive\Windows\fonts folder.
2. Open Photoshop and create a 300px by 100px sized transparent background document.A layer with the name Layer 1 will be automatically created.Fill this layer with white color.
3. Open the Character window (Windows>Character) and set these values:

4. Now get the Type Tool (T) and type in some text (Iam using TEXT in my tutorial).Name this layer as Text and rastersize it.
5. Transform the perspective of the text.To do so ,select Text layer and press Ctrl+T ,right-click on the text and select Perspective.Stretch the text inside-out from any of the lower end so as to give it a 3D effect.Do not stretch too much. You will get something like this:

6. You will find that after transformation, the text has lost its smoothness. One may neglect it but it will grow more as we continue the tutorial. To reduce this spikey effect ,Ctrl+Click on the Text layer to load its selection and then switch to Channels window (Windows>Channels).Thereby ,create a new channel which will be named Alpha 1.Select this channel and fill your selection with white color ,deselect it (Ctrl+D).Now go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur ,type 2 and press enter.Your document will now resemble somewhat with this image:

7. Now press Ctrl+L to configure the levels of Alpha 1 channel. These settings depend upon the blurness and the size of your image.I used these settings:

8. Ctrl+Click on Alpha 1 layer and switch to Layers window (Windows>Layers). With the selection still loaded ,create a new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N) and name it Text2 ,fill the selection on this layer with black color.Don't deselect, press Ctrl+Shift+I to inverse the selection then press Delete key thrice. You can deselect now. Here is what I came up with:

The original Text layer is no more useful. You can delete it or keep it as a backup.
9. Select the Text2 layer and press V to activate the Move Tool.Press Alt+Up Arrow Key five times (or more if you wish to make a thicker text).
10. Make the upper-most layer and the Layer 1 invisible by clicking on the eye near their thumbnail in the Layers window.Select any other layer and press Ctrl+Shift+E to merge all the visible layers.Make the upper-most layer and Layer 1 visible again.
11. Rename the upper-most layer as Base and the merged layer as 3D.Go to the Blending Options of Base layer and give it a Gradient Overlay of these settings:

12. Ctrl+Click on the Base layer and create a new layer ,name it Gloss.Fill the selection with white on this layer. Now move the selection 2pixels up then hit Delete. With the Gloss layer selected ,go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur ,type 0.6 and press enter.Reduce the opacity of Gloss layer to 60%.
13. Now go to the Blending Options of 3D layer and set these values:

14. Ctrl+Click on the base layer then Ctrl+Shift+Click on the 3D layer to reinforce the selections of two layers.Fill this selection with black color on a new layer say Shadow.Place this Shadow layer below the 3D layer.
15. Go to the Blending Options of Shadow layer and set these values:

16. That's it.Here is my final result:

Hope this is exactly what you were in need of
