hi,i need to know how to reduce the white space of the icon attached below so,that i have only the shape of icon left and not the extra white space around it.

just hide the white bakckground layer and save the image as 'PNG'

First, did you make that icon yourself? Or is it just an image you found?
 
If the latter, just use magic wand to select and delete the white space.
 
If you can't understand what I'm saying, you're better off with some tutorials for Photoshop first.
