Just wondering how do you put your name/ copyright pictures
so that others cant use it without your permission.

No way to do that. You can put your name in the meta-data, you can use a watermark, or you can even just write your name in a corner ... but people will still be able to copy it.

I admit it looks a bit odd, but only because I don't know much about GIF color schemes. The point is ... it CAN be copied, and it CAN be edited.

What do you mean? If you can edit it ... you can obviously copy it. How do you think I did that?

You can use even Paint-like simple graphic editor to put name on an image if you want to use it as avatar or signature , however , it depends upon the nature of the picture that another person can change text on it or not - for instance , if you put your name on complete a black area then the text can be made to disappear just by filling the space with black color.
