well im trying to make a "Christmas signpost" the ones that looks something like this: http://previews.mobilefun.co.uk/colour-gifs/130x98/9951.gif
im not really all that good with photoshop, in fact i just learned how to properly use the pen tool XD... anyway i tried looking for some tutorials or  tutorials that includes something like in the picture, but there was none... well any help would be much appreciated!

I need this for my web design class for a home page im planing on making the sign post as the "navbar" per se. This is the b/g that i made(from an xmas card tut lol): http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/ [...] ayaybg.jpg and i'm also considering suing a "rotting wood" signpost style(like all chipped and what not.

You made that background entirely yourself? From scratch? Doesn't look like you're new to Photoshop if you did...

As for getting a wooden texture, try this:

  • Create a new layer. Using the rectangular marquee, make a selection of the required size.
  • Fill it with the primary colour for the wood. (Wood brown or whatever)
  • Next, with the primary colour in set to the colour you want for the stripes in the wood, go to Filter>>Noise>>Add Noise. Select the Monochrome/Single Colour option. Adjust the size slider till you get dots with a diameter equal to the stripes' required thickness. Click OK.
  • After this, go to Filter>>Blur>>Motion Blur. Set the angle to 0 or 90, depending on whether you want vertical or horizontal lines.
  • Next, use the Liquify tool in the Filter menu to create swirls and "loosen" the lines to make it look more natural.
  • If you feel the stripes are a little too distinct or sharp, give them a slight Gaussian Blur of about 0.5px.

That should give you a wooden texture. ;)

Dunno, you'll have to post your result here so we can help you out. I guess mess around with the Filter Gallery till you get what you want.
