Although you show the progress your flames go through, it's not really helpful for someone who wants to create flames like yours. When I make flames, I usually use a combination of the Pen Tool, Gradients and some blur filters.

The smudge tool helps a lot, too.

The colours are not convincing, if you ask me. Take a look at a picture of a real flame; that should help you out.

By the way, a flame is always darker at the center and lighter as you move away from it. You've done just the contrary.
