Although DDR3 does give more bandwidth, this will only be of use in very I/O intensive tasks, like video editing. The main advantage of DDR3 for the normal user is the lower voltage, which means less power consumption..
And get a custom built PC. If you don't know how, order the parts from a store that also assembles the PC together. You'll get a much better spec PC for cheaper
If you need help with the parts, then just give me a budget (excluding the assembling cost) and I'll give you a list of components. ---------------

turtle bacon Profil: Big Penguin | wont Ddr3 give better graphic performance since its about 300mhz faster the Drr2? And less power comp is a plus for me!

It's not faster, it just has more bandwidth. What that means is that the amount of data the RAM chips can transfer is increased in DDR3, but because you are never going to use that much bandwidth, it doesn't make a difference to you (maybe 1%-2%)..

If you go with Core 2 Duo/Quad or a AM2 socket AMD processor, take DDR2. For i7/i5 and AM3 AMD processors, take DDR3.
As of now, DDR3 is not worth the extra cash...
btw. wrote this with iPhone OS 3.0 and have to admit that copy&paste and undo typing are awesome. Message edited by legace on 06-26-2009 at 09:05:02 AM

turtle bacon Profil: Big Penguin | I see now! Thats pretty neat how you can copy and paste. How about the landscape keyboard? Is that any better? I have used that but on my little brothers ipod touch it was ok. ---------------

Writing in both landscape and normal modes are pretty easy once you get used to it.. But in landscape mode it's a little harder to tap the wrong letter
Another great thing I noticed with 3.0 is that when you are writing something (like this post), and accidentally tap on a link, and then when you press back, the stuff you wrote is still there (unlike on 2.x). Very handy Message edited by legace on 06-26-2009 at 05:02:20 PM ---------------

I know a little, but others know even less There is a lot I don't know
Here is a nice comparison of DDR2 vs DDR3. It's in Finnish, but you should understand

No? With proper cooling (which means that the temperature doesn't go insane), I'd actually reccomend it.
Okay, for 4.2 GHz, you'd have to raise stock voltage and increase FSB from 333 Mhz to 466 MHz (I believe the multiplier on the QX9650 is 9), which is actually pretty much, but with good cooling, the processor will live on Message edited by legace on 07-01-2009 at 09:22:31 AM ---------------

uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | And how do you improve cooling without submersing your PC into liquid coolant, or without using nitrogen at -100 degrees C? ---------------

Replacing the stock Intel cooler with a better one and by getting a case with good airflow.
Check these results out on a Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 @ 4,2 GHz: (Intel vakio = Intel stock, rasitus = load)
Intel stock vs a slightly larger cooler:

zl4y3r Profil: New Penguin | Yeah, overclock doesn't shorten lifespan too much if you cool your processor properly. My QX9650 is running at 4.2GHz with Vcore of 1.39V, FSB of 400 and I set my multiplier to 10.5(Extreme series have unlocked multipliers and my motherboard supports half multipliers) and my temperatures don't go over 60C on full load, but yeah I have liquid cooling with a 3x120mm radiator just for the processor. What do you mean with that? I mean Ubuntu uses GNOME, which is available on basically all major distributions. Is there something special about Ubuntu that I fail to see? ---------------
