| poiru Profil: Moderator | 1) Download this: http://www.xtremesystems.com/pi/super_pi_mod-1.5.zip
2) Unzip and run super_pi_mod.exe
3) Select Calculate(C) and then select 1M digits.
(note: close all applications before you start to calculate)
4) Wait. Don't do anything until it tells you the result.
5) Open up your browser and post result here.
I got 14.797 seconds with a Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz.
WTF is Super PI?
Super PI calculates the value of π (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi)
Selecting 1M calculates Pi to the millionth decimal. ---------------

Tanshin Profil: Penguin Pro | I'll have to try this when I'm on my PC.
Is there a mac version? I'd love to compare... ---------------

Tanshin Profil: Penguin Pro | Okay, so my PC got 37.463 seconds, with several things running in the background (e-mail, Chrome, BumpTop, LogMeIn, iReboot, Orb, Ad-Aware, etc).
I'll try it again with nothing running to see what I get then. ---------------

Quote from somewhere: Also, some people have claimed that deleting all files in the SPifolder with the exception of the *.exe & *.txt's has reduced thelikeliness of the error.
If that doesn't help, it's probably an issue with your RAM.
Try memtest. Get http://www.memtest.org/download/2. [...] 11.iso.zip
then burn it to a disk (bootable ISO, guide here: http://wiki.ubuntu-fi.org/Levykuva [...] 1f37ba55c6 [it's in Finnish, but you'll understand]) and boot into it. If the test fails, you got crappy RAM Message edited by poiru on 04-17-2009 at 02:56:30 PM ---------------

uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | I probably do have crappy RAM. I've run the RAM memory tests before, there's always a few bad sectors or whatever when I run the tests thoroughly for two-three hours. ---------------

turtle bacon Profil: Top Penguin | Meh...2.0 ghz
EDIT After using CPU-z It read that my porccecor runs at 1995 mhz... not the full 2 ghz that was on the box... And its really T7250 Re-labeled to T5800. The T5800 isn't even on the intel site. ---------------

That should be enough. The slowest part of your PC is probably your harddrive. Get a good SSD ($$$) and things will be much snappier ---------------

turtle bacon Profil: Top Penguin | I was thinking of upgrading to a SSD and DDR3 but since my Graphics card can not be upgraded there is really no point. Now Im going to hopefully buy this.

poiru Profil: Moderator | DDR3 won't give a huge improvement over DDR2. Although DDR3 does give more bandwidth, this will only be of use in very I/O intensive tasks, like video editing. The main advantage of DDR3 for the normal user is the lower voltage, which means less power consumption..
And get a custom built PC. If you don't know how, order the parts from a store that also assembles the PC together. You'll get a much better spec PC for cheaper
If you need help with the parts, then just give me a budget (excluding the assembling cost) and I'll give you a list of components. ---------------
