I am formatting my brother's laptop for him and he told me that he's bringing me a Windows XP Crystal CD to install on it for him. I had never heard of it before this, what exactly is Windows XP Crystal?

There is an illegal version of Windows XP on the internet called Windows XP Crystal. This has got nothing to do with CrystalXP.net (this website). They are using some of our images (for example the Tiny Tux) for their project which might make it confusing (also our website name).

Basically, Windows XP Crystal is an illegal 'cracked' version of Windows XP with a crystal appearance. Just to make it clear - we do not support illegal versions of software or operating systems and got nothing to do with this. :)

Welcome to CrystalXP. ;)

Ok, I kinda figured that from his idiot friends. They were the ones who screwed it up in the first place and kept it for 3 months before I got him to just give it to me to look at.  They told him he needed to update his BIOS drivers.........uh....yeah.  They had formatted it and put and non-Windows compatible partition on it, therefore it wouldn't boot off a Windows disk......BIOS drivers......yeah....

Thanks for the info.

This is exactly why I keep my computer locked away from my family. My parents have their own, as does my sister. My dad's is very slow, and my sister's is full of adware and viruses ... and that's after it's formatted every few months. :/ Mine, however, has been going perfectly since before 2007.

If it were up to me, no-one would be allowed on computer systems without at least a modicum of proper training.

Surprisingly Uttaresh the European Union want to introduce a sort of computer "license" so only people who have been trained can use a computer.

I doubt it'll happen, but I agree it would be a good move to enforce that people should have at least a small amount of training in computers, both hardware and safe practices (online).

Windows XP Crystal has indeed got nothing to do with this website. They are indeed using images from CrystalXP.net that aren't theirs.
