Yesterday I downloaded Moyea video converter to convert swf (flash) files to mp4 for my iPod. The converter works fine and the videos come out in excellent quality when I try playing them on my iTunes, but when I put them on my iPod it only played audio and showed a black screen.

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

If the .mp4 isn't working, try converting it to a .mov, or right click the movie in iTunes and choose "Convert for iPod"

Flash files are interactive; not really meant to be played back as MPEG files. Your PC can handle them because, well, it can handle interactive movie files. Your iPod cannot.

If I am correct, you're trying to download and play YouTube, Google, Video etc. music videos onto your iPod ... Believe me, they're not that stupid. It can't be done -- not easily anyway.

And I hate that advertisement bot that posts automatically each time someone asks about movie playback and conversion software.

No, interactive movie files don't work on iPods but if you have a simple flash with no pausing actionscript in it, it can be converted to mp4 or similar files and should play on an iPod fine. I spent my first few months with my iPod getting youtube videos and my own swf files and converting them and putting them on my iPod :)

And agreed on the damned bots  :grrrrrr:

Some videos on YouTube are actually of a much higher quality then others now. Although the quality of the normal videos is often still very low. I guess that's why all 3D animation movies that are discussed in the CrystalXP news are hosted on other sites. If they where posted on YouTube, there would be a huge quality loss.

24" LCD Desktop Monitors are way better than tiny 15" Laptop screens. ;)

Or if you wanted a widescreen monitor in which you could open two standard documents side by side in their original dimensions. ;)

Oh, if I only I ever wanted to open two documents and view them at the same time, and yet I can survive quite happily having two windows split across one screen and just survive with the size.

Undoubtedly if I was some kind of graphics artist, or some media artist, I'd have two huge monitors, along with the £3000 tablet and the studio flat :p

The youtube clarity issue is not a big deal.

Don't worry. You will find so many softwares for your ipod to convert the files into mp4. Try the most famous TVC 3. Which provide the best quality of the converting. I use this usually.
