i was just on amazon looking for a mac,
and i found a mac book pro 15-inch: 2.4GHz for £1095, instead of £1368.89
 
i wont post link beacause the likelyhood is that gruzzly bear will ban meh  
 
i think i just got lucky

Not quite. For all normal purposes, you can ... but it's like art. To the normal person, there is nothing magical about the Mona Lisa. He or she cannot really tell why it is better than any other painting. Only someone who is immersed in art can tell. Same for computers (as you well know). Same with fashion.

My dad has a Dell XPS as well, and his also lasts 5 hours (on full brightness) running Windows XP. Guess Dell's a good choice.

MacBook Pro = Non-removable battery. More than 8 hrs impossible.
 
Normal laptops = Unlimited x 6 hour-8 hour batteries.
 
Conclusion = Normal laptops >> MacBook Pros

Well I would but as dumb as my parents are I had a Laptop Picked out that had good battery life MS Office and 4 gigs of ram, 2.3 ghz processor with a radeon 3200. All for around $800. So after I introduced the great laptop deal...They go out and by a cheap laptop with ms office for....$1000!!! A parently The  sale person had conviced them that my package was "Crap" and that the cheapo Package was great....Hardly The GMA 4500mhd can barely play any games with out lagg and the 2 ghz processor is horrible!!! Only thing that came good out of this package was the warranty for 1 year...I guess. The store that we bought it from hopefully let me trade that package back in for the $1000 or at least something of the same value.

My parents always took my word over the salesman, so I guess I'm lucky.
 
But you need to make them see that you were right and they were wrong, or they'll only do the same thing the next time they want to buy a computer. As for the salesman, didn't you say you have a gun?

EDIT: I ran a battery Check and it said the battery was all good...

Well you clearly have a problem if your battery doesn't last for over 45min.
 
Just take your laptop to where ever you bought it from, and go shout at them.. They'll give you a new one

Just because your battery tested OK doesn't mean it's new and good. For example, all old batteries will test OK even though they may lose as much as 90% capacity over time.

I doubt he/she'll just get a free replacement.

If it was a mac and you had a valid protection plan you would. Mine had a deformity and they sent me a new one for free. I only had to pay $1 USD for shipping (because it had a return service for the old battery)

My mum took in her laptop, with warranty still valid because the screen wouldn't turn on at all, and they told her it wasn't covered so she left, believing the salesperson.
 
I went in the next day, found the salesperson, shoved the laptop up his backside, and came out with the replacement
 
Same with her camera, except she'd got rid of that before telling me Comet suck.
 
And my Laptop, HP, they charge full shipping price, there and back for any kind of replacement or fix. Certainly would cost me a bit more than 1$!
